Painting has been a powerful medium for expressing my emotions. Through my art, I am able to escape, dream, hope, remain calm in the midst of chaos, release parts of my passionate self, my deepest thoughts, the simple moments of life, fleeting and lasting joy, and so much more.
One of my many inspirations is the ocean. Having spent my childhood living near the Pacific Ocean and spending countless days surfing, the ocean has remained the most cherished part of my life. Art allows me to permanently seal my experience, however profound or fleeting, from a calm moment to the heights of turmoil.

When I first flew in an airplane, I was struck by the color, shapes and shadows created by the light from the sun. The sun influenced everything, infusing the already rich palette of the landscapes and seascapes with what felt like a supernatural light. As the plane moved, the images seemed to move as well. The shapes bounced and swayed in their own rhythmic way.
This was all very exciting to me, and the experience has informed my artwork ever since. Light, color, and movement are basic elements in all of my paintings.
My work has also been strongly influenced by the coastline of Massachusetts. I grew up there and have always felt tremendous happiness and excitement at the beach. Pleasure is a large part of my process and a critical part of the finished piece. My paintings are places of happiness.

Haggerty, an emerging self-taught artist has been on a slow yet steady pace expanding his creativity when time and space allow. Writing, painting and spoken word have each contributed to interpreting life as viewed through his lens. Whether a poem, a radio show, an artbook or a painting is the outlet there is no lack of his humor, deep thought and passion that goes into crafting the end result. Pulling from childhood experiences, parenting, work life, random social gatherings, literature and everyday encounters, Chip takes slices of past and present interactions to formulate the foundation of each piece produced. Chip grew up on Long Island and attended school in New England, which eventually led him to Stowe, Vermont where he has lived with his family for the past 45 years. He began painting in earnest a few years ago after sending an oversize thank you note to a relative. Working prolifically, Chip has only recently begun showing his paintings the past couple of years with group shows through Chandler Center, VT; Firehouse Gallery VT; SEABA, VT; Julia Seabrook Gallery, Brooklyn; Karyn Mannix Contemporary, East Hampton; The Front, VT and Stowe Living, VT.

Dan Welden has been a pioneer of alternative printmaking since 1970. Nationally and internationally recognized master printmaker, he was the first artist to initiate Solarplate and water-based monotype workshops, placing him squarely in the vanguard of healthy and safe creative practice.
As co-author of ‘PRINTMAKING IN THE SUN’ and director of Hampton Editions, Ltd., his 50-plus years of collaboration include artists such as Willem de Kooning, Eric Fischl, Kiki Smith, and Dan Flavin. He has received international recognition through his residencies in China, Belgium, Cuba, Peru New Zealand, Australia, and other countries.
With 100 solo exhibitions to date, including the paramount exhibitor at the Cape Cod Museum of Art and travels to 53 countries, he was awarded a ‘lifetime achievement award’ from A/E Foundation in New York; a title of Professor Emeritus from Escuela de Bellas Artes in Cusco, Peru and most recently a Pollock/Krasner Foundation Grant.
"The series “Aesop’s Fables” is a series of symbolic gestures that employ visual opposites, including the hare and the tortoise and the grasshopper and the ant, as metaphors for the Yin Yang philosophy. Resurrecting 50-year-old found zinc etching plates that had oxidized beyond redemption, Welden created these works which are a tour-de-force of formal, yet enigmatic power. Making his own tools, the artist employed dry point lines, salt etch, ink, paper, and a press to subject the dilapidated plates to a maelstrom of mark-making gestures.
“The Color Sequel” consists of a hybrid series of images, augmented with acrylic, watercolor, and crayon." *courtesy of The Ink Shop

James Koskinas

James Koskinas, born in Terre Haute, Indiana in 1947, is a painter, writer, actor and co-creator of the film, “The Twilight Angel,” as well as a play, “Even if The Mountains Burn.” Currently James lives works, paints and writes in Santa Fe, New Mexico with his wife, Julie Schumer, also a painter.
The figure is James’ primary theme, part of his quest to know the human condition. He attempts to paint as automatically as possible which is intended to bring forth elements of his unconscious. He adds layers of paint until the original painting has been covered over many times, working at a rapid pace. He usually has more than one painting going at the same time. Influenced by Native American mythology, Koskinas sees the role of the artist as akin to that of a shaman, trusting his instincts and freeing the figure from the customary restraints that painting imposes. A chance meeting with a lost stallion on an Arizona highway set in motion Koskinas’s lifetime obsession with painting horses. Lately he has added a rider to his horses.
The riders have become self-portraits and a search for unity between the horse and man.

Julie Schumer, a native of Los Angeles, California, and born in 1954, lives and paints in Santa Fe, New Mexico. She discovered her love of abstract expressionism at age 5. A lawyer for many years, Schumer is self-taught. Her work is shown in various galleries across the United States and is in numerous private collections. Schumer produced the award-winning feature length film, The Twilight Angel, about the artistic process and struggle. Schumer paints large and medium sized abstracts in an expressionist and gestural style. These works are inspired by the great natural beauty and light of her surroundings in New Mexico. She starts by introducing color, shapes, and line, then responds to their development in an intuitive fashion, layer after layer. More recently she has explored a limited, neutral palette with appearing and disappearing lines and emerging and dissolving forms. These works are at once mysterious, moody, and powerful yet luminous as the result of many layers of paint applied and removed and reflect upon the fragility and
vulnerability of life.

Using thread, pins, and watercolor paper, I create intricate 3D drawings to explore shape, line, color, shadow, and the meditative rhythm of pattern. Layering and suspending the thread between the pins creates a mesmerizing optical effect that brings to mind the balance of delicacy and resilience of life, nature, dreams, and memory, with a touch of nostalgia, hope and delight.
